A study looking at a blood test for early stage non small cell lung cancer
Cancer type:

Phase:
This study looked at developing a blood test for early stage non small cell lung cancer.
More about this trial
A lung cancer tumour can shed tiny pieces of DNA into the blood. This is called circulating tumour DNA (). In this study doctors wanted to see if they could find ctDNA in early stage non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
The study was for people with a type of NSCLC called , who were due to have surgery.
The doctors also wanted to:
- learn about any changes to ctDNA after surgery for NSCLC
- see whether ctDNA can be used to identify people who are at a high risk of the cancer coming back
Summary of results
38 people took part in the study. They all had 3 extra blood samples taken:
- before surgery
- before going home following surgery
- at the 1st follow up appointment after surgery
The researchers had hoped to recruit more people but they found it was difficult to find enough people to take part in the study.
The researchers haven't done any specific analysis of the blood samples. They have stored them for future use.
