Credit Suisse, we need your vote to beat cancer

In the 1970s, just 1 in 4 people in the UK survived cancer. Today, thanks to research, that figure has doubled. Our ambition is to accelerate this progress so that 3 in 4 people survive cancer for 10 years or more by the year 2034. But we need your help, Credit Suisse.

1 in 2 people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.

That’s 50% of Credit Suisse employees, friends and family.

Currently only half of them will survive.

But research is helping more people survive cancer than ever before. By supporting Cancer Research UK, Credit Suisse has the power to save millions of lives.

Dr Oliver Pearce

Dr Oliver Pearce's research project

By supporting Cancer Research UK, Credit Suisse has the opportunity to fund Dr Oliver Pearce’s ground-breaking immunotherapy research project*, just four miles from your Canary Wharf office. Immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that harnesses our own immune systems to fight the disease. Currently immunotherapy only works for 10-20% of people, which means that thousands are dying because it hasn’t worked for them. Oliver is on a mission to change this.

Some cancers use barriers to protect themselves from treatment – just like a hermit crab using its shell as a shield against predators. Oliver is designing treatments that break through the barrier. His project has been rated outstanding by world experts in this field. It offers a real chance to finally bring cancer under control, and even eliminate some types of the disease, saving millions of lives worldwide.

*As Dr Pearce’s project is working towards creating treatments for patients, his project will involve the use of both human tissues, which are patient samples taken with their consent, and mouse models of cancer. Animal research is a legal requirement if we want to bring life-saving treatments to cancer patients.
