Opportunity information
Cancer Research UK have recently chosen Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and Royal Marsden (RM) to be one of their UK centres of excellence for radiation-related research. The research of ICR/RM RadNet will concentrate on laboratory work at the early stages of discovery so is a little different to usual patient and public involvement. Much of the work will be conducted on mice or in test tubes. You can find out more about this work from the website here. This website is not intended for lay audiences. One of the roles of the group will be to input into the development of a webpage specifically for patients and the public.
The advisory group
They’d like to recruit a panel of engaged, enthusiastic lay members (non-experts) who can help ensure that they keep their ultimate goals relevant to patients. The Advisory Group will provide input and feedback on the strategic direction and progress of their work. This will make sure that this early research will ultimately improve cancer patients’ lives.
They are looking for people who:
- Have been diagnosed with cancer or who have a close family member or friend who has been diagnosed and have been treated with radiotherapy
- Can confidently and constructively contribute to meetings and take part in group discussions
- Can listen and respect different opinions
- Can take part in virtual meetings e.g. Zoom/Teams and happy to communicate by email
You do NOT need to have:
- Any knowledge of ICR/RM, RadNet or the work they do
- Any radiotherapy, medical, research or scientific background
You will:
- Attend an initial in-person welcome/induction session in London in March 2025
- Attend on-line meetings every 6 months to feedback on the direction and progress of the research
- Review and help select which small pilot projects are funded
- Provide direction on communications with lay audiences
They will support you by:
- Providing training to help you understand the ICR/RM RadNet projects and your role
- Providing payment for your time
- Cater for any accessibility issues (please email if you’d like to discuss further)
