Understanding the biology of cancer cells

Professor David Barford and his team at the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge are combining powerful imaging techniques with biochemistry in the lab to look at the cell growth systems that go wrong in cancer.

His work will provide new information about how these complex systems operate, and the molecules that control them. By understanding what the structure of these molecules look like, researchers will be able to design drugs to target them and treat cancer more precisely. This will mean those treatments have fewer side effects for patients.
