New members for our Children and Young People Panel

panel members in discussion

Our CYP Cancer Insights Panel provides valuable insight on a range of projects relevant to children and young people at Cancer Research UK. Panel members are sent consultation packs every other month and provide feedback through online forms and surveys. This enables our panel members to shape and influence the work of CRUK on a broad range of projects and campaigns related to children's and young people’s cancers.

We hold online Impact Meetings quarterly with the panel, to share updates on previous consultations, and demonstrate how their views have influenced the work of the charity. The panel’s more recent consultations have more recently included feeding into; a review of our Star Awards, updating our Teenage and Young Adult Cancers webpages, and feeding back on this year’s Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month campaign.

We consistently receive excellent feedback from both the consulting teams across the charity and our panel members. Here are some of our favourite pieces of feedback from our panel members:

"I'm coming to the end of my 2-year stint on the panel and I cannot recommend it enough to anyone considering it. The consultations are interesting but not too time-consuming (I have a baby, toddler, and full-time job but still found them fine to complete). You really feel like you're making a difference for such an important thing and you also get to know some truly incredible people!" Former Panel Member

“It's a very rewarding experience as it helps to feel like you are doing something positive towards CYP with cancer when a lot of the time the experience is not. It is also a way to help process our own journey for dealing with cancer.” Current Panel Member

Our panel members all have their own experiences with a child or young person’s cancer; some have been patients themselves, and others are parents, carers, or loved ones of somebody with a cancer diagnosis. Our 7 new panel members will be joining the existing group of 13, contributing their voices and unique lived experiences to shape the work of Cancer Research UK for Children &and Young People.

Our panel members represent people from a range of different ethnic backgrounds and locations across the UK, and include patients and loved ones, working and retired people from a range of professional backgrounds.

Although we are proud to celebrate the diversity of our current Children and Young People’s panel, we are continually looking to ensure our panels represent an even more diverse group of people affected by cancer and are truly representative of the UK cancer population.

Thanks to all our panel members for the work they do for the charity.
