Warm-up and cool down
Start slow and if you’re planning a long walk, do a few warm-up stretches before and after.
10,000 steps a day is thirsty work. Stay hydrated by drinking water before and after your walk and don’t forget your water bottle whilst you’re out walking!
Start with a 20-minute walks then increase gradually. You can easily rack up your steps by making little changes to your lifestyle. For example choosing the stairs.
Wear the right clothing
Thick cotton socks and sensible, comfortable and lightweight shoes with support are best and remember to consider the weather!
Get enough sleep
Being more active day-to-day can help improve the quality of your sleep. Make sure you give your body the rest it needs after a long day of stepping!
Use the correct technique
Walk at a steady pace, swing your arms freely and stand as straight as you can. Your feet should step in a rolling action from the heel to the toe.
