Introducing our updated 'Welcome to Volunteering' booklet

We’ve recently updated our Welcome to Volunteering Booklet. We’d encourage you to read the latest version, which is full of useful information to help you throughout your volunteer journey, from important policies to guidance on topics such as safeguarding and resolving concerns.

What's in the booklet?

Shelf stocking

It includes our commitment to you as volunteers, highlights the many ways that you support us, and explains the incredible impact you have.

The booklet also includes the expectations we ask our volunteers to meet.

What's changed in the new version?

Volunteers

The latest version outlines several refreshed policies, as well as a brand-new Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics.

These documents have been designed to help all of us – staff and volunteers – use our shared values to guide how we behave and the decisions that we make, so that we’re in the best position to drive forward our mission to beat cancer.

What do I need to do?

Using a computer

If you’ve got ten minutes to spare, we'd encourage you to read through the latest version of the booklet. A copy will be permanently available on the Volunteer Hub so you can access it whenever you need it.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with your staff contact.

New promotional displays in store, featuring our very own volunteers!

Brett with promotional display

At the start of June, new promotional materials launched in shops across the UK encouraging visitors and passers-by to sign up and volunteer. These featured photos and quotes from current volunteers like you.

Meadowhall superstore volunteer, Brett, was one of those spotlighted. Brett said, “I loved being on the in-store POS posters promoting what I love to do! I usually change the ones in our window!”

Once the posters were up, Brett even embarked on a mini tour of his local shops to try and spot the posters featuring his photo.

“My shops tour has been so much fun! It’s been so nice to meet some amazing staff and volunteers along the way and share laughs and stories.”

Bringing our values to life: one year on

values

One year ago, we launched our refreshed organisation values: Bold, Human, Credible and Together. Our shared values represent who we are at Cancer Research UK and what’s important to us as an organisation. They act as a guide for how we treat each other and how we make decisions. By putting the values into action, we can all help to create an environment where people feel like they belong and make CRUK a great place to work or volunteer.

Over the past few months, the Flame of Hope awards and the Our Heroes awards have shined a spotlight on many brilliant examples of how staff members and volunteers across the organisation are putting the values at the heart of everything they do – from ensuring our information and research is credible, to trialling bold and innovative campaigns, to embracing our human value and working together to keep our shops running smoothly and raise vital funds.

Read more about our award winners - and get inspired to put the values into action.

Volunteer system update

As you may know, next year we'll be introducing a new volunteer system, which will help us to better support you and your volunteering with us. You can read more about the new system, and the latest updates on our Volunteer Hub.

We're here to support you

Thumbs up - this is great!
Thumbs down - this isn't for me.
