Our strategic research partnerships

We are just one of many organisations across the globe working to tackle cancer. By partnering with those who share our goals, we can accelerate progress and make a real difference for people affected by cancer.

We collaborate with organizations of all sizes across the UK and internationally within the non-commercial sector, including charities, government funding agencies, and research and academic institutions. We are also open to new partnerships that align with our research strategy.

Snapshot of our partners

Our strategic research partners are located in countries across the globe and range from small cancer specific charities to large multi-national funding organisations. Here are just a few examples showing the wide range of initiatives enabled through our current partnerships.

International Alliance for Cancer Early Detection (ACED)

ACED is a £50m partnership with the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, The University of Manchester, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), The University College London, Knight Cancer Institute at OHSU and The University of Cambridge. The Alliance unites world-leading researchers from institutions around the globe to tackle the most pressing challenges facing cancer early detection research.

The Cancer Data Driven Detection programme

Cancer Data Driven Detection is a joint initiative between the NIHR, the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council, Health Data Research UK and Administrative Data Research UK. The consortium aims to generate new data-driven models that significantly increase the accuracy of predicting cancer risk, enabling more precise targeting of early detection and prevention therapies.

Cancer Prevention Research Conference

Our Cancer Prevention Research Conference is run in partnership with the American Cancer Society. This event is building a multidisciplinary community to foster new collaborations and enable advances in future cancer prevention approaches. The next conference will be held June 3-5 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Stratified Medicine Paediatrics 2 (SMP2)

The SMP2 programme is run in collaboration with the Experimental Cancer Medicines Network, the NHS, University of Birmingham Cancer Research Clinical Trials Unit and industry partners: Illumina, Astra Zeneca and Pfizer. Focussed on lung cancer, the programme links national pre-screening services through the NHS to a national cancer trial.

Colorectal Cancer — stratification of therapies through adaptive responses (CRC-STARS)

CRC-STARS aims to improve treatments for colorectal cancer based on a better understanding of how tumours respond and adapt to drug treatments. This £5m co-funded project with the Bowelbabe Fund, Bjorn Saven CBE and Inger Saven and the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer supports a multidisciplinary, international team of investigators.
