Our board

The Business Beats Cancer Bristol Board was established in 2018 and has brought together a group of committed and dynamic individuals to help unite the West of England business community. All money raised will help fund vital research projects in Bristol such as the £4.1 million Cancer Epidemiology Programme that is focussing on new ways to prevent and predict cancer developments and progression.

Sandy Hinks

Business Beats Cancer Bristol board member Sandy Hinks.

My motivation is to help raise money towards the research that Cancer Research UK does to help more and more people survive cancer. After losing five members of my close family to this dreadful disease I hope in time this can be achieved with my help and contribution.

Charley Beaton

Business Beats Cancer Bristol board member Charley Beaton.

I’m passionate about raising money for Cancer Research, as cancer is something that touches everyone, whether it be friends or family, or personal experience. Being on the board is really important to me, and as Bristol has a vibrant business community; I’m excited to see the difference we can make to local cancer research.

Alex Robins

Business Beats Cancer Bristol board member Alex Robins.

My particular interest in cancer research began with the oncology studies I undertook as part of my degree course, which coincided with my grandmother being treated for cancer at the local hospital. Suddenly I was seeing real life examples of how development of cancer treatment was having a direct effect on a close relative’s life.

What we're funding in Bristol

Bristol is home to a paediatric Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, which we co-fund with the National Institute for Health Research in England. The centre brings together lab scientists and cancer doctors to speed up the flow of ideas and new treatments for cancer from the lab to the clinic.
