Help Shape the Future of Radiotherapy Research

About this opportunity

The Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden Hospital are one of Cancer Research UK’s Centres of Excellence for radiation-related research. They’ve led many breakthroughs in radiotherapy—making treatments more effective with fewer side effects.

This role is part of RadNet, a programme focused on early-stage laboratory research. While much of the work happens in test tubes or with mice, the ultimate goal is to improve outcomes for cancer patients. Your input will help ensure this research stays relevant to patient needs.

What you’ll do

• Be the lay representative on the ICR RadNet Strategic Group (4 online meetings/year)
• Work with Dr Alison Tree and Professor Kevin Harrington to:
  • Develop agendas and co-chair 2 PPI Advisory Group meetings each year
  • Ensure both researchers and PPI members have what they need
  • Help select small pilot projects with patient benefit in mind
  • Make sure lay communications are clear and accessible

Who we’re looking for

• Has personal or close family/friend experience with cancer and radiotherapy
• Wants to help improve radiotherapy research for patients
• Has experience in PPI (as a member or leader)
• Can confidently co-chair meetings and lead discussions
• Can listen, respect differing opinions, and contribute constructively
• Comfortable with virtual meetings (Zoom/Teams) and email communication
• Able to travel to ICR in Sutton for one meeting per year

You do NOT need:

• Any scientific, medical, or research background
• Prior knowledge of ICR, Royal Marsden, or RadNet
