This study is looking at developing a blood test that can detect melanoma at an early stage.
The aim of the study is to find out if a blood test can find melanoma cells circulating in the blood stream. This is a pilot study. If the test works, then researchers hope it will lead to a further study with more people.
Please note - you will not get any direct benefit from taking part in this study but it may help people in the future.
You can enter this trial if you
You cannot enter this trial if you have a known infection in your blood stream.
This trial will recruit 500 people in Leicester. If you agree to take part, you will be asked to give blood samples. These will be taken when you visit the hopsital as part of your usual care.
Researchers will ask your permission to use tissue from your melanoma that was taken as part of your usual care.
There are no extra hospital visits involved with this study. You have the 2 blood tests during routine hospital visits.
You may have some discomfort when the needle is put into your vein to take the blood sample. As with any blood test, there may be some mild bruising around the site, but this will clear after a week or two.
Please note: In order to join a trial you will need to discuss it with your doctor, unless otherwise specified.
