Your February update

I hope your year has started off well. With spring just around the corner, there’s so much to look forward to. Ramadan Mubarak to our volunteers who will be observing Ramadan!
As we approach International Women’s Day on 8 March, we'll be marking the day on our CRUK social media channels and shining a spotlight on leading female scientists.
The Big Slimming World Clothes Throw 2025 is on its way! Our biggest stock generation campaign of the year will be running from Sunday 30 March – Saturday 12 April, in partnership with Slimming World. Talk to your shop manager to find out everything you need to know to support this exciting campaign and make it a success.
We are also stepping up our commitment to sustainability with an energy efficiency initiative across our shops, sharing tips to save energy and make a difference.
And great news - our Children and Young People fundraising campaign has already raised £408,000 and still counting. This wouldn't be possible without your dedication and support!
Together we are beating cancer.
Julie Byard
Director of Trading Cancer Research UK
Our Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People Trading fundraising campaign is in full swing, with only a few days left to get involved.
This year, we're aiming to raise £530,000 for our work into cancers affecting children and young people. So far, the campaign has already raised an incredible £408,000 and counting, so let’s keep the momentum going!
We want to say a huge thank you for everything you’ve done to support the campaign so far – your help makes a huge difference.
There’s not long left to go, with the campaign due to end on Sunday 2 March, but there are still plenty of ways you can get stuck in and help us to raise even more vital funds. Why not try:
- Promoting our gold pin badges to customers at the till
- Wearing a Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People branded bib on the shop floor
- Talking to our customers at the till point about the campaign and asking customers to donate £1 or round up their total. Every penny and pound will count towards the shop’s campaign total!
- Helping with campaign materials, like the wall planner and totaliser
However you choose to support, you’ll be helping us to make even more progress for young cancer patients. And if you’ve got any feedback or ideas for next year’s campaign, make sure to pass them onto your shop manager so we can keep improving.
Hear from volunteer David Ash

On 4 February, we celebrated World Cancer Day. Here we share the achievements of David, one of our remarkable volunteers fundraising in the lead up to the day. David started his mission to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK in 2016, in memory of his dad who passed away aged 54 from lung cancer.
Since then, he has raised over £165,000 for the charity. His main fundraising effort comes annually in January, when David runs 5k every single day in the lead up to World Cancer Day on 4 February dressed in a pink tutu, pink leg warmers and a pink wig. ‘PinkTutuGuy’ offers David a chance to connect with his local community and raise awareness of cancer and CRUK’s life-saving work.
''My inspiration is simple – to make a difference. To help more relatives, friends, colleagues – of other people, and myself – see and give a smile in more tomorrows. Volunteering is such a two-way street. As a volunteer, I continuously feel energised by the people I meet, by the way it makes them feel.”
Energy Efficiency Initiative

Our mission is to beat cancer, and we know that the long-term progress of our work requires sustainability.
During February, we’ve been running a brand-new energy efficiency initiative across Trading. We’ve shared energy-saving tips and asked all shop teams to put these into action to help us to reduce our energy use, which in turn will help us to save money and have a greater impact for people affected by cancer. To help us see what impact these energy-saving tips are having, we’ve also been measuring our energy usage where possible across Team Trading this month.
We can all play a part in making CRUK a more sustainable organisation. Have you read our energy-saving tips for shops? If not, ask your shop manager to share them with you, and discuss how you can save energy in your shop.
We're here to support you
