What is Patient Involvement?

Want to get involved?

We have a variety of activities which you can get take part in. In doing so, you will help us beat cancer.

Current opportunities

Patient involvement is the processes of working together with patients, carers and loved ones, to shape, influence or guide projects as they develop. At Cancer Research UK, we actively involve people affected by cancer in our work. The insight they bring is helping us to beat cancer while ensuring that we’re meeting the needs of patients and their families.

Find ways that suit you to use your experience of cancer to make a real difference. You can share your story to raise awareness, use your influence to persuade your MP to support our campaigns and share your views on our work to help shape it.

If you have a question and would like to speak to us please call 0203 469 8777, alternatively email us at involvement@cancer.org.uk

What's Patient and Patient Involvement?

Patient & public involvement (PPI) means actively involving patients, carers, advocates, service users, and members of the community in research and work. People aren’t just participants in research but are actively involved in the decisions made about the research.

Patient involvement at Cancer Research UK

At Cancer Research UK, we actively involve people affected by cancer in our work to help us to beat cancer while ensuring that we’re meeting the needs of patients and their families. This means working with people rather just for people.

We want to work together with patients, carers and loved ones, to shape, influence and guide our work as it develops.

Our commitment to you and Patient & Public Involvement

We’re committed to driving up standards in health and social care research and believe excellent patient involvement is inclusive, values all contributions and ensures people affected by cancer have a say in what happens. Together with a host of organisations from across the UK, we’ve signed a shared commitment to public involvement.

Excellent public involvement is inclusive, values all contributions, ensures people have a meaningful say in what happens and influences outcomes, as set out in the UK Standards for Public Involvement.
