Laryngeal cancer

Getting diagnosed with laryngeal cancer

You usually start by seeing your GP. They will examine you and might refer you for tests or to a specialist.

Seeing your GP when you have symptoms of laryngeal cancer

You usually see your GP first if you notice a change that isn't normal for you. They will ask about your symptoms and may arrange some general tests.

Referral to a specialist for possible laryngeal cancer

Your GP should arrange for you to see a specialist if you have symptoms that could be due to laryngeal cancer.

Screening for laryngeal cancer

Screening means testing people for early stages of a disease. This is before they have any symptoms. There is no national screening programme for laryngeal cancer in the UK.

Tests for laryngeal cancer

You usually have a number of tests to check for laryngeal cancer. The tests you might have include a camera test to look inside your nose and throat.
