Financial planning and cancer

It’s important to get the right financial advice if you have cancer or have had it in the past. You could think about using an authorised financial adviser.

Mortgages and cancer

Being diagnosed with cancer doesn’t mean that you can't get a mortgage. But a lender needs to know that you can pay back the loan.

Pensions and cancer

You might be able to retire and claim your money from a private pension early if you have cancer. It depends on the rules of your pension scheme. Your illness usually has to be permanent and stopping you from working.

Credit cards, loans and cancer

You don't have to tell a lender if you have cancer. But they will want to do a credit check to make sure you can repay the loan.

Life insurance and cancer

It can be more difficult to get life insurance if you have or have had cancer. Premiums are likely to be higher. An independent financial advisor can help you find the right policy.

Health insurance and cancer

Health insurance can be harder to get if you have cancer. You will need to check with the insurer whether cancer is a medical condition that they cover.

Cancer, driving and car insurance

Having cancer could have implications for your driving licence and motor insurance. You might need to contact the DVLA and your insurance company.
