Join our Inclusion in Involvement Steering Group

listening in a focus group

We’re looking for people affected by cancer to join our new steering group to give a voice to those who may have felt unheard or previously felt they couldn't give their views on cancer information, research, and campaigning. This is a chance to get your voice heard and to change the future of cancer representation.

Do you feel left out or unheard? Do you want to work with CRUK’s Patient Involvement Team to change this, both for yourself and for others in a similar situation?

We’re creating a steering group to support our around equality, inclusion and diversity. As the involvement team for Cancer Research UK, we work to connect people's lived experiences of cancer to all parts of work the charity does. However, not ALL people affected by cancer are currently being reflected by our work.

We want to learn from people who don’t feel included or represented, and work together to change this so that our work reflects and benefits as many people as possible.

We have some core aims we want to achieve but will deliberately leave space for new ideas and priorities that will come from the group itself, we want to be as open and receptive as possible.

Just some of the areas we’ll be looking at are identifying the barriers that can stop people from joining our network, creating resources to support our wider staff to have inclusive and diverse involvement, and seeing how we can make involvement opportunities more inclusive, accessible and appealing.

We're looking for people who...

  • Are or have been affected by cancer, either personally or through a close family member/friend.
  • Have felt that their experiences aren’t reflected in cancer-related campaigns and communications
  • Have felt left out of research or involvement opportunities

We’re particularly interested in hearing from

  • People from ethnic minority groups
  • People who identify as men
  • People on lower incomes (for example, those who receive income support, are unemployed or retired)
  • People from LGBTQIA+ groups
  • People under the age of 30
  • People who are disabled and/or have other co-occurring conditions

You DO NOT need to have

  • Any prior knowledge of CRUK or the work we do.
  • Any prior experience of Patient and Public Involvement.
  • Any understanding of research or scientific understanding of cancer.

Support offered
