About the project

Our genetics play a role in how our bodies respond to cancer medicines. This can affect how well treatments work and the side effects people experience. The University of Manchester is exploring this to help shape future treatment plans and make care safer and more effective for people with cancer.

To make sure the research reflects what matters most to patients, they want to work closely with a Patient Advisory Group throughout the project.

They plan to meet with the group online around four times a year during the 3‑year study. All they ask is that you have an interest in the topic and are happy to share your thoughts.

Looking for

  • You don’t need any research experience.

  • They are keen to hear from people who have experience—personally or through a loved one—of chemotherapy, immunotherapy or targeted treatments.

  • Spaces in the group are limited, but there will be other ways to contribute.

  • They are committed to making this opportunity inclusive and accessible. If you have any specific requirements, they will work with you to support your involvement.

What you’ll get out of it

By getting involved, you’ll help shape:

  • The information people need when going through cancer treatment

  • What should be considered when offering genetic testing as part of cancer care

  • What matters most to people affected by cancer when thinking about genetic testing

If you have any specific accessibility needs, please contact jessica.keen@manchester.ac.uk.
