Further Information
Children and young adults with cancer are living longer thanks to better treatments. But these treatments can be very strong and sometimes cause serious illness. Some patients become so unwell they need care in an intensive care unit (ICU) – a hospital area for the sickest patients, where machines help the body work until recovery.
Recovering from this can take time and may affect future health and cancer treatment. This research will explore how often young people with cancer need intensive care, why, and what support they need during and after this experience.
The University of Glasgow research team wants to co-design this project with people who have lived experience. Your views will help shape an interview guide so the right questions are asked in a sensitive way.
What will you do?
Join online meetings to discuss:
- Gaps in support for patients who need intensive care
- Communication between cancer and intensive care teams
- What matters most during this difficult time
- How to improve recovery and quality of life
Why get involved?
Your experience can make a real difference. By sharing your views, you’ll help researchers understand what matters most to patients and families – and improve care for others in the future.

External Opportunities (organised by other organisations)
In addition to the patient involvement opportunities we run at Cancer Research UK, we share opportunities from other charities and organisations.
These external opportunities are organised independently by other groups or researchers. If you're interested in taking part, you'll need to contact and work with them directly.
We’d love to hear about your experience with any external organisations. If you’d like to share feedback, please email us at involvement@cancer.org.uk.
