Further information

Researchers at the University of Southampton are exploring what trauma-informed cancer care should look like. They want to hear from people who have experienced trauma at any point in their lives and have also received cancer care. Participants will not be asked to share details of their trauma. Instead, the interview will focus on experiences of care within cancer services and what could be improved to better support people affected by trauma. If eligible, participants will complete a short online screening and consent form. Interviews will take place on Microsoft Teams at a time that works for each person. You cannot take part if:

  • You feel unable or uncomfortable talking about your experiences of cancer care

  • You are currently too unwell to participate

  • You are under the care of a crisis team or admitted to a mental health hospital (to ensure participation does not interfere with ongoing mental health care)

What will you do?

Participants will:

  • Complete an online screening and consent form

  • Take part in a 1-hour interview on Microsoft Teams

  • Share their experiences of cancer care (not their experiences of trauma)

Why get involved?

Insights from this study will help researchers understand how cancer services can be more trauma-informed. The University of Southampton hopes the findings will be used to improve support for people affected by trauma, with results shared through publications, charities, forums, and training for staff.
