Researchers at the University of Manchester are running a study to understand the economic impact of caring for someone with cancer. They are particularly interested in how unpaid caregiving can affect work, income, and financial wellbeing.
While some research already shows that caring responsibilities can have a financial impact, the research team want to hear directly from people with lived experience.
People can choose the way they take part that feels most comfortable for them. This may include:
a private, one‑to‑one online chat with a researcher
a small group discussion with others who have similar experiences
sharing experiences in writing instead of taking part in a live conversation
All options are informal and supportive, and people can take part anonymously.
They are looking for people who:
are aged 16 or over
live in the UK
have experience of being an unpaid carer for someone with cancer
You do not need any research experience - just a willingness to share your story.
What people share will help researchers better understand the real financial challenges faced by unpaid carers affected by cancer. These insights will help shape future research and contribute to evidence that can influence policy, support services, and wider understanding of cancer caregiving.
Participants will speak with a friendly researcher in a respectful and confidential setting. Data will be handled securely by the University of Manchester, following ethical approval procedures. People can choose what they feel comfortable sharing and can stop taking part at any time.
People can register their interest by completing a short online form.
Register your interestAfter registering interest, the research team will get in touch to explain the next steps, answer any questions, and arrange a time and format to take part that works best for you.
