About the project

We’re looking for new members to join an existing panel that helps guide decisions about when and how commercial organisations can access data from Cancer Research UK–funded research.

By sharing your views, you’ll help make sure data is:

  • Used responsibly and safely.

  • Shared in ways that benefit people affected by cancer.

  • Handled openly and in a way the public can trust.

We want people affected by cancer to be meaningfully involved in these decisions.

What you'll do:

As a panel member, you may be asked to:

  • Review and discuss requests from commercial organisations to use research data.

  • Share your views on whether proposals are fair, safe and in the public interest.

  • Help improve how we involve patients and the public in data partnership decisions.

You can choose how much you take part, depending on your availability and interest.

Who we’re looking for:

You might be a good fit if you:

  • Are comfortable sharing your opinion, and can give constructive/respectful feedback, both verbal and written.

  • Are interested in how patient data is used in research.

  • Have a basic understanding of research, and an interest in developing your knowledge in this area.

  • Care about fairness, inclusion and representing different voices.

  • Have access to a computer/tablet and internet connection, can attend virtual meetings and can prepare for meetings.

  • Are comfortable using applications like email, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Word, and online software.

You do not need:

  • Any knowledge of Cancer Research Horizons or the work we do.

  • An understanding of data or our research data strategy.

  • Experience of working within commercial organisations.

Why this involvement matters:

Commercial partnerships can help research move faster, but they must be done in the right way.

Your input will help make sure that:

  • Decisions reflect what matters to patients and the public.

  • Data is used ethically and responsibly.

  • Public trust in research is protected.

  • Your voice will directly influence how these partnerships work.
