About Shine Night Walk London

Shine Night Walk London 2024 will start at Battersea Park and finish at Evolution within Battersea Park. All of our routes will take you past a range of famous landmarks such as Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and St Paul's Cathedral. "In 2011 I lost my lifelong friend Phil to prostate cancer, he left behind a wife and 4 young boys. In 2012, I signed up for Shine Night Walk London. It was a fantastic night and I wrote about Phil on my back sign. Sadly, the list of people ‘I Shine for’ has grown, as more friends have developed cancer which is why I sign up each year. Last year I took part in my 10th full marathon Shine Night Walk and raised £465. I’ve already signed up again this year and am really looking forward to it as always. Why wouldn't I do it?

What fundraising can do
1 in 2 people born in the UK after 1960 will get cancer in their lifetime*. Our research saves lives.
Over the last 40 years, Cancer Research UK's work has helped double breast cancer survival, we were a key player in the development of radiotherapy, and we played a role in developing 8 of the world’s top 10 cancer drugs.
Although we're proud of our achievements, there is still more to be done. The money you raise will help to bring us closer to our ambition of 3 in 4 people surviving their cancer for 10 years or more by 2034.
How fundraising helps London
London is an exciting hub of research activity. It’s home to two of our research centres, the Convergence Science Centre and the City of London Centre, which includes the multidisciplinary Francis Crick Institute. The Francis Crick Institute is dedicated to exploring the biology underlying human health, to improve the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of human diseases.
Research happening right now our in London centre's include:
- We’re helping more people access the latest cancer care.
- Understanding how lung cancer evolves to help personalise treatment.
- We’re using artificial intelligence to improve therapy for sarcoma.
- Trialling aspirin as a cancer treatment.
- We’re investigating how kidney cancers evolve.
- We’re finding the right treatment combination for men with prostate cancer.

Ahead of the Shine Night Walk start venue opening, our enquiries marquee will open for pack collections from 1pm on Saturday 21 September.

Shine Night Walk London 2024 will start at Battersea Park and end at Evolution within Battersea Park.
It’s really important to plan in advance how you’re going to get to and from the venues, especially overnight when some public transport won’t be running.
The pedestrian entrance will be from Rosery Gate, marshals and signage inside Battersea Park will be in place within the venue. Please note, no access will be allowed from other entrances as the route follows the internal paths in the venue. Chip mat timings within the venue may also activated by your walking number if you walk near them - this means you will not have a correct finish time.
There is no designated event parking at Battersea Park, and several of the car parks within Battersea Park will be closed to the public. We recommend using public transport. Please aim to arrive at Battersea Park 45 minutes before your start time.
There will be a drop off point at Rosery Gate, cars will be allowed to enter the car park with passengers who have running numbers - there will be a 10 minute drop off limit.
Once you have finished your event, a travel desk team will be on hand to help plan your journey home. Marshals and signage will be in place to guide you the taxi rank, private hire vehicle pick-up point and personal pick-up point.
There will be a taxi rank which will operate near the Finish venue at Chelsea Gate. There will be plenty of taxi's available throughout the night. If you would like to pre-book a private hire vehicle, you must be collected from Rosery Gate on the South of Battersea Park, a one way system will be in place, any private hire vehicles MUST show the booking to enter this area.
There will be a collection point at Rosery Gate, cars will be allowed to enter the car park for a maximum of 30 minutes.

Train: Queenstown Road Train Station or Battersea Park Train Station. Both are approximately a 10-minute walk to the Rosary Gate entrance.
Nearest tube stations: Battersea Power Station is the closest underground station. The Rosary Gate entrance is approximately a 15 minute walk from here. Sloane Square, Pimlico and Victoria station are 30-35 minutes walk to Rosary Gate
Bus: Various buses serve Battersea Park. Please visit TFL for up-to-date bus routes and time-tables www.tfl.gov.uk
Car parking: Please note that the pay and display car parks in Battersea Park will be closed during the event. There is no participant parking on site.
