Event Update
We made the difficult decision to cancel the Shine Night Walk event in Newcastle & Gateshead last weekend due to adverse weather conditions and concerns for the health and safety of our participants, volunteers and staff. We’re pleased to confirm that Newcastle and Gateshead Shine Night Walk will now take place on Saturday 25 October 2025. If you have already signed up your place will be automatically transferred to the new date, and all event details, including the route and start time will remain unchanged.

When you sign up to Shine Night Walk you can pick which research area you want to support, from bowel cancer to children’s cancers or simply where the need is greatest.
Over the last 40 years our work has helped double breast cancer survival, supported the development of radiotherapy and played a role in developing 8 of the world’s top 10 cancer drugs.

The CRUK Newcastle Centre delivers world-leading research that accelerates the transition of lab-based discovery to the clinic for the benefit of people affected by cancer.
Research happening right now in Newcastle includes:
- Creating a network to develop immunotherapy as a treatment for liver cancer.
- We’re improving treatment for children and young people with blood cancer.
- We’re uncovering the cell’s hidden genetic secrets to improve our understanding of children and young people’s cancers.
