How and when we contact you

How and when you will hear from us

This page explains how and why Cancer Research UK may contact you, and the types of messages you may receive from us.

We think it’s important to say thank you and show how your support helps. If you’ve helped us, we’ll send you updates and thank-you messages. How often we contact you depends on how you’ve supported us. For example, volunteers in our shops may get more regular updates.

If you sign up for a Cancer Research UK event or fundraising activity, we’ll send you useful information like fundraising tips, event details, and reminders to send in any money you raise. We may also provide you with information about our event partners.

If you join an event run by another organisation (like the London Marathon) and tell them you’re fundraising for us, we may contact you to offer support and information.

If you’ve taken part in an event before, we might let you know when it’s happening again and how to join—unless you’ve told us not to send you marketing messages.

Contacting people who’ve supported us before is a cost-effective way for the charity to raise funds. Our marketing messages include news about our research, campaigns, and ways to help. Sometimes we include messages from other organisations that support us.

When you give us your details, you can choose whether or not to get marketing messages.

We may use what we know about you—like your past donations, where you live, and what activities you’ve joined—to send you messages that match your interests.

Even if you say no to marketing, we might still need to contact you for other reasons. For example, to process a donation, thank you, tell us what we are doing with your donations or talk about your volunteering.

We will never sell or rent your personal information to other companies for marketing.
