We might ask you for the following details, some are optional.

Your date of birth
Transactional information, including donations you make, events signed up to or purchases made

We cannot delete your details immediately after you have provided them to Cancer Research UK. This means that anonymous donations are not currently possible when you have given us your information
We will usually collect these details from you after you fill in a form on our website. Sometimes we will collect these details over the phone if you are speaking to our Supporter Services team, or another member of Cancer Research UK staff. Sometimes, these details may come to us from a third party when you register for an event and agree to fundraise for us, for example the London Marathon, or from fundraising sites like JustGiving or Facebook. You should check any privacy policy provided to you where you give your data to a third party. If we have identified you as a potential supporter for Cancer Research UK, we will use publicly available information to help our fundraising. As part of this we may conduct due diligence and ethical screening. Please see “How we use public information to help our fundraising” for more information.
We use this information to process your donation, purchase or registration and ensure your money goes to the right place if you have placed a restriction on your gift. We may use this information to process Gift Aid if you have agreed that we can claim this on your behalf. We also carry out fraud prevention and money laundering checks on our donations where legally required. When you sign up for an event, a fundraising page will be set up for you to collect donations from friends and family. You will be given access to edit your personal details, including your name, so that you are in control of what is shared publicly on your page. At events, there may be photographers present, and we rely on the legitimate interest lawful basis under the UK GDPR for this activity. You will be able to opt out of photography at any time before and during the event. For more information, please check the Event Rules for the event you have signed up for. Some of our shops and superstores have CCTV in operation – these are used for the prevention of crime, health and safety and criminal or legal investigations. We store CCTV images for 28 days and they are routinely deleted after this time (unless part of the footage is required as evidence). You will see signs in shops or superstores where CCTV is in operation to let you know that these are recording images. When you go into a shop, you may provide details to the person at the till to claim gift aid on your purchases – this will usually be very basic details such as your name or address, so that we can find your details in our system. When you make a purchase in our online store, we collect your details to process your order and deliver the items you have ordered. We process these details in line with the Terms or Service which you can find here: https://shop.cancerresearchuk.org/policies/terms-of-service If we identify that you may be a significant donor or fundraiser for Cancer Research UK, we may conduct more research on you. Please see How we use public information to help our fundraising” for more information. Your details will be kept on our supporter database as a record of your relationship with us for as long as you continue to support Cancer Research UK. We will continue to update those details if you decide to give more or do something else with the charity – for example, take part in a future event. If you have not taken any action with Cancer Research UK for a while, your details will be deleted from our database in line with our standard retention policy.
