Stages, types and grades of laryngeal cancer

Staging means how big the cancer is and whether it has spread. Grading means how abnormal the cancer cells look under a microscope. The type tells you which type of cell the cancer started in. 

About stages and grades for laryngeal cancer

Laryngeal cancer is also called cancer of the voice box (larynx). The staging of a cancer helps your doctor to decide on what treatment you should have. The grade of a cancer tells you how much the cancer cells look like normal cells.

TNM and number stages for laryngeal cancer

The stage tells you how big your cancer is and whether it has spread. The 2 main systems doctors use to stage cancer of the voice box (larynx) are the TNM and the number classification systems.

Types of laryngeal cancer

The type of laryngeal cancer means the type of cell the cancer started in. The most common type is squamous cell carcinoma.
