Treatment

Radiotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma

Radiotherapy is a common treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma. Radiotherapy uses high energy rays similar to x-rays to kill cancer cells. You usually have external beam radiotherapy.

Planning radiotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma

Before you can start radiotherapy, your team needs to plan your treatment. This means working out the dose of radiotherapy you need and exactly where you need it.

Having radiotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma

You usually have treatment from an external radiotherapy machine. Radiotherapy machines are very big and may rotate around you to give treatment from different directions. You usually have treatment once a day from Monday to Friday, usually over a few weeks.

Side effects of radiotherapy for Hodgkin lymphoma

Radiotherapy can cause side effects in the area where you have treatment. There are short term and long term side effects. Everyone is different and the side effects vary from person to person.
