Tests to stage

You may have one or more of these tests if you have been diagnosed with kidney cancer. They can tell your doctor the stage of the cancer. The stage of a cancer tells you how big it is and whether it has spread.

CT scan

A CT scan uses x-rays and a computer to create detailed pictures of the inside of your body.

MRI scan

An MRI scan creates pictures of the organs inside your body using magnetism and radio waves.

Bone scan for kidney cancer

A bone scan shows up changes or abnormalities in the bones.

Blood vessel tests for kidney cancer

You might have tests to look at the blood vessels and blood flow in and around your kidney. See why and how you have them.

Chest x-ray

You might have a chest x-ray to check your general health. This is to make sure you are well enough to have a particular treatment.
