Our total income 2015/16
Our total income for 2015/16 was £635 million. This is split between voluntary donations and legacies, trading activity and royalties and grants associated with our research activities.
Income from donations and legacies
£178 million: Legacies – gifts left to us in Wills – are our largest income stream.
£122 million: Over one million donors give us regular donations which help us plan vital research into the future.
£62 million: Events like Race for Life, Pretty Muddy, Dryathlon, Stand Up To Cancer and the Virgin Money London Marathon are a key part of our fundraising.
£49 million: This includes money raised by our local fundraising groups, individual supporters and corporate partnerships.
£17 million: Major giving and appeals raise money for key projects, including the construction of the Francis Crick Institute.
£6 million: This includes donations given through our shop network.
Income from trading activities
£95 million: This includes £76 million from our shops and £18 million from the trading aspect of our events, including merchandise sales and registration fees.
Income from royalties and grants
£95 million: This includes money from our company Cancer Research Technology, which works with partners to develop new treatments and ploughs the profits back into our research.
£11 million: This mainly consists of income from our investments.
