Multiple Myeloma with Light Chain issues

Hi

My dad was diagnosed in 2017 he was 70, after 2 years of remission his latest light chain reading are 1200 (Nov 297, Dec 639, Now 1200).

3rd line treatment is commencing on the 19/4.  I am wanting to understand how this cancer progresses and what signs am I looking for if this treatment isnt working.  what is the outlook for my dad now?

I lost my mom to altzhemers in December which was devestating and sudden, I feel I need to be more prepared now as to how we prepare for the coming months of treatments.

  • Hello SARAHLB and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis and I hope that his treatment will go well. Information on myeloma can be found on this page on our website including a section on treatment for myeloma which may be of interest to you. It's difficult for anyone to tell you what the outlook may be for your dad but perhaps you could try and talk to your dad's specialist who will be best placed to give a prognosis or an indication as to what to expect as it can be sometimes really difficult to say.

Feel free also to talk about this with our nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040. You can call them from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. They may be able to answer questions you may have or point you in the right direction.

I am so sorry to hear you lost your mom to Alzheimer's in December and it sounds like it was a real shock and was unexpected. I can understand why you feel the need to be more prepared and I hope that you will also hear from other members of this forum who have been affected by multiple myeloma and that they will come and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
