Liver cancer: not looking forward to chemotherapy

Been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer and have to have chemo. Not looking forward to it.

  • Hello Resusman62 and welcome to Cancer Chat

I am sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I hope you will get to meet others here who have also been diagnosed with liver cancer, who may be further along with their treatment and can therefore share their experience with you. For example, I found this thread by [@Madrina]‍ who was diagnosed with primary liver cancer in November and has probably since had treatment. Feel free to respond to the thread if you wish as it can be useful for you to exchange notes with others who may have had similar treatment.

You can find out more information on primary liver cancer on this page which I hope will answer many questions you may have at the moment following your diagnosis. We also have general information on chemotherapy here which I hope will help you prepare for your first appointment. Do you know when your treatment will start?  I hope you will also hear from some of our members who have had chemotherapy before and that they will be along soon to share some good tips with you based on what worked for them.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 and their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm if you have any questions about your treatment.

    Best wishes,

  • I'm sorry to read you have to do chemo, I'm currently going through it for breast cancer, it's certainly no walk in the park but it's doable....everyone will have different side effects.....stay off google, listen and trust your oncologist. They work hard to keep you well during chemo, and doses can be tweaked.....let us know how you get on? Xxx

  • I've now been told chemo has been defered until I have a pet scan, the waiting not knowing is worse than knowing what I have.

  • Hi kemo isn't all ways as bad as thought (it can be for some though) it up sets the stumack so anything wrong there you are going to be sick. I've got a hiritus hernia I'm normally OK for 5or6 days then I start day and night normally 8or9 days lt just clears up ready for more kemo. A gent in with me only had a tingling in one arm. Very lucky. Like I say it varies a lot. Good luck best wishes for the future.
