How do u best deal with the after effects of treatment

Hi, was just wondering how any of u deal with or if you do suffer with issues after radiotherapy and chemo?

  • Hi Nikki,

Hopefully some of our members who have had radiotherapy and chemotherapy will let you know how they dealt with any side effects or issues they experienced after their treatment soon but I just wanted to give you our cancer nurses telephone number in case you wanted to discuss anything in particular with them in more detail.

Their number is 0808 800 4040, which is free to call from a UK landline, and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5pm. I have included some general information about these treatments on our website for you to have a look at as well. All you need to do is click on either the radiotherapy or chemotherapy sections to find out more.

    I hope this helps Nikki.

    All the best,

  • Hi Karen,

I'm glad the forum is helping you :) When you feel ready why don't you tell us a bit more about yourself in the introduce yourself section of the forum. That way other members who may be in a similar situation will then be able to reply to share their advice and experiences with you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Nikki,

I had both treatments for the cancer I had and I found that the chemo burnt my veins so when they try and take blood it is very difficult to find a good one and then when they do it is usually pretty painful afterwards. But to help with this I keep my arms warm when I know they will be taking blood as this usually helps.

I haf 3 different types of chemo plus radio. The radio even though it did its job it also stopped my chest/ribs/frame growth and scared my brain.

I am on life long meds for the affects of the scaring and rado on my brain but if this means I can l7ve a fairly normal life then i'll take it.

My chest dod not grown to what it should have which meant my lungs do struggle to fit in the space and my breasts never grew becase of the radio.

What side affects have you had?
