Help/advice

So my family member was diagnosed early last year with terminal lung cancer, had various types of treatment over the last 18 months to contain the cancer, and done brilliantly throughout.

These last 2 weeks they have took a massive decline, not really wanting to leave the house and very tired all the time, struggling to go to the toliet and having a lot of back and abdominal pain.

Been back and forth from the hospital these last few days and not really got any answers.

I cant help but think this is the final stages :( has any been in a similar situation?

  • Hi Em,

I'm sorry the doctors aren't being much help at the moment. Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to share their experiences and advice with you but whilst you wait I just wanted to make you aware of this section on our forum which has information on what to look out for and how to manage symptoms as the time draws near.

Best wishes to you both at this difficult time.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Em, I am going through this at the moment and have seen a big decline with my mum over the past couple of weeks.  We are getting pain management support from the local hospice and mum's GP.  I would start with your GP and explain your family member needs pain management or, if you have them, our oncology department at the hospital had Macmillan lung cancer nurses and they sorted this out for us.  I hope that helps.  xx  Sending you huge hugs xx  i feel like i am sitting on a time bomb but at least i have that support from the professionals which really does help me and they have been amazing.
