Diet Tips for Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Hi All,

December 2018 i was diagnosed with TNBC, then in Feb 2019 i started my chemotheraphy until July and in August (5 weeks ago) i had my mastectomy. Surgeon told me that all my nodes are clear and that i dont need radiotheraphy. This is good news but suddenly i had panick attack on thinking what if the cancer reccur, as i've been told the chances of recurring for triple negetive is higher than other subtype of Breast Cancer. What can i do to stop it? So i've been reading a lot on diets etc after cancer but makes me more confuse of what to eat or avoid.

Some sites said avoid dairy, red meat, beans, soya etc, but some sites said have soya and beans etc. Some sites said follow paleo diet, keto diet etc. so many which makes me more and more confuse. wheni ask my doctor, their asnwer was - balance diet.

Anyone has any diet tips for Triple Negetive Breast Cancer?

thank you

  • Hi Foxdale

I'm so pleased to hear that about the results you had from your consultant. As you say, it's good news.

I think that lots of our members here will be able to recognise the reaction that you've described. You've been through a lot in this last year and it's perfectly understandable that you want to try and do what you can to lower your chances of reoccurance.

There is a lot of information available on the internet about diet and cancer. Which diets "claim" to cure or prevent cancer and as you've found out for yourself there is a lot of conflicting advise. Not everything that we read online is true or based on scientific research.

Your Dr has given you sound advice about eating a healthy balanced diet. We've got some information on our website about cancer and diet which you may find helpful. If you'd like to chat to one of our nurses about your concerns then you're most welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040. I'm sure they'll be able to offer some advice and support.

    Best wishes,

  • I'm in a bit of quandry too Foxdale.

I also have triple negative, my story is posted elsewhere + profile + introduce yourself.

I have just been trying to do the low carbs diet having diabetes type 2 which says protein is important, but mainly I just eat chicken or fish with loads of vegetables, rainbow and leafy greens, but now I am having to look more into specific other foods and possibly supplements.

I was reading about apples and other fruits and also about making the body more alkaline.  I have to be careful with fruits because of the diabetes.

Thankyou moderator Jenn I shall look into the link you provided as well :)

    Best wishes Foxdale and all

    Hi Foxdale

This is a good site for diet and cancer. There are links to all sorts of studies so you can read for yourself. It is American so references to cadmium levels etc aren't relevant for the UK as we have higher food standards here in general.

Also a little of their write up may be wrong eg sunflower oil and sunflower seeds - the research shows the oil is to be avoided but doesn't mention seeds.

The only oils I would use are olive oil and coconut oil.
