Binge Eating After Cancer

I was diagnosed with stage 1 colorectal cancer back in May 2018. I was fortunate enough not to need  chemotherapy but I was left with a permanent ileostomy.  Since my diagnosis I've been binge eating on and off to the point that my weight has ballooned. I dunno what to do. I just wanna get back to the old me :(

  • Hello Garyjd,

A warm welcome to our forum! I am so pleased to hear that your cancer was at stage 1 and that you didn't need chemotherapy. I am sorry to hear though that this has had an effect on your eating habits and on your weight. I think it would be a good idea to speak to your doctor about this  and ask whether you could be referred to a dietitian who will be able to recommend changes you can make to your diet or have tips that are adapted to your particular situation taking into account that you had Stage 1 colorectal cancer and that you have a permanent ileostomy. A dietician is experienced in working with people with special dietary needs due to health conditions.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm if you ever wanted to discuss this with them.

We also have general information on our website about diet and cancer which includes a section on healthy eating. But I think given your particular circumstances, you would most benefit from talking to a dietician if you haven't done so already.

I hope you also hear from some of the members of our forum who have been in a similar position as you and that they will share their own diet tips with you.

    Best wishes,
