I did a little search for you and found that a few months ago, jenie was also asking on the forum whether she should give Provera a go or not. You can read her thread here and perhaps you could drop her a line and ask her, for example, what decision she took in the end?

Thank you so much for the information, Lucie.  I think that it has made my mind up.  I am not good at taking medication unless I know it has minimal side effects and this drug seems to have more than its share.  Although my cancer is incurable I have managed for 18 months and have just been told there is no spread and it is still all contained in my pelvic area.  Think I will take my chances on doing nothing!

I hope you don’t mind me chipping in but moderator Lucie thought I might have something to add.  It would be good to talk things through with your doctor before deciding not to take anything that has been prescribed for you.  It is your choice to decide what to do and what you feel would be right for you, but it is hard to predict how you will react to any medicine.  Some people taking this drug have very few problems with it while others may have more.  It is worth remembering that once you start taking any drug you can always discuss with your doctor discontinuing it or changing it if you do experience side effects, and most side effects will stop once you stop taking the drug.

Thanks, Martin.  It would seem the side effects are very numerous abd some quite common.  My oncologist knows how I feel about drugs but stressed the problems with blood clots, saying that Provera made your blood sticky.  He said I would get a huge almost uncontrollable appetite and would need to exercise more.  I am already a couple of stone overweight and struggling to lose it and exercise is very difficult. due to a constant cough. I feel he would understand if I decided against it.  He has already told me I am past my 'sell-by' date so anytime is a bonus.  :-)
