My name is Eamonn. I am a husband to a surprisingly tolerant wife, and father to a five year old girl and seven year old boy. We live a very nice life in Harpenden near London. I also happen to be terminally ill.
In January 2012 I was diagnosed with stage III pleural mesothelioma.
Recently I decided as part of my legacy to put together a website that was more to do with my thoughts and ideas on other general subjects for my family and friends and anyone else foolish enough to look. However, cancer colours everything doesn't it and it so far has turned mainly into articles about cancer, terminal illness, luck, and people's perceptions on religion etc.
I really struggled with the idea of metaphorically disembowelling myself publicly, and also with just the thought of 'Who am I to speak? What do I know about anything? And who cares?'
However, since making the decision to do do so, I have had a generally very positive response and feel that maybe if it can help just one person in one small way, then it is a worthwhile thing to do, so I've come here today to invite anyone who cares to to come and read what I have written. Initially the audience was not intended to be specifically other cancer 'sufferers' (I hate that word!) or their close ones, but it seems to have struck some real chords with others in a similar situation too.
I warn you though, it's not your typical blog, I refuse to be downbeat, I try to make the articles entertaining and I accept that the tone is not to everyone's taste (or terms and conditions!), which is why I respect Cancer Research's web space and don't just copy and paste the articles.
