Worried possible bowel cancer

Hi

I have been having bowel issues from Dec 17 and was diagnosed with piles.  In between ive had epsiodes were i have had no symptoms so did brush all under the carpet.

From Nov 18 ive had quite feequent symptoms which include a feeling that im pressing in my rectum among blood and or orange mucus, and soft stools that are urgent and more than once a day with tummy, back and left sided pain.  I can then go through some short periods of very little or no symptoms and i can miss a day of stool movements.  This caused myself and GP to not push further investigation.  But i never go a full week without some symptom so i ordered myself a private fecal occult test which has cane back at 10 today.

Today, ive had the loose stools, tummy pain, rectal pressing feeling and after fecal occult result i have booked a provate appointment for further investigation. Unfortunately, even private is 3 weeks away. I am beside myself with worry considering all symptoms began almost 2 years ago and have just gradually gotten worse.

Can anyone advise or help direct me in regards to symptoms?  My overall symptoms are almost daily and worse from about Feb this year

thanks in advance

  • Hello Lisa12,

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with these problems for quite some time now.

It's good that you've an appointment date booked for some further investigations. Hopefully the consultant will be able to find out what has been causing your symptoms. I know that it's difficult not to worry but it's possible your anxiety about the cause is contributting to making things worse.

If you think it would help to speak to one of our team of nurses about your concerns then you can call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,

  • What happened may I ask is there any update. Xx

  • Hi

so ive had my colonscopy and nothing was found...not even piles!  I have no explanation other than the gastritis saw on Endoscopy may be bleeding...but ive been offered no further investigations.  I have changed my lifestyle and have noticed quite some improvement even that i rarely take Ompreazole or Gaviscon now.

The left sided pain still comes and goes as does the eratic bowel movements but not as frequent.

ive included a daily probiotic, kefir and honey.  Cut out alcohol (pretty miserable on that one) cut out chocolate, crisps, fried and spicy.  Cut down on caffeine and dairy and tomato based products

I will see how that all goes!

but very grateful all was clear on the colonscopy x

  • So glad everything came back clear for you xxx
