Thank you for posting a question. I am sorry to learn that you are not feeling so well.

We are often contacted by people who tell us about their symptoms and ask why might be the matter, but as a nurse replying by email I am afraid that I cannot reliably tell you what might be wrong. It seems that your doctors think that you have a viral infection and this certainly sounds plausible. Viral ilnesses can often take quite some time to clear up.

In terms of your having bad anxiety, this must be dreadful for you and I would imagine that this is having a negative impact on your quality of life. I am unsure if you have discussed this with your GP or not. They may be able to help. It may be helpful to look at some pages of information on the NHS website  which is written specifically for people with anxiety and depression. You will find these pages here.

There is also  Anxiety UK and the mental health charity MIND may be able to help.

Whats scaring me is that i have researched it shouldn't take more than 2 weeks for a viral infection to clear, the anxiety is killing me too. 

Hi  I have panic attacks all the time I have  voirel infection  I went to see 5 different doctors they all told me the same thing  and I can’t think what to think my lymph  nodes in my  ea left ear keeps going up an down  I’m  and I really can’t swallow properly  cause I have a saw throat  an d horse voice I’m trified it might’ve cancer I’m only 34 years old

hi, my viral infection lasted around 8 months, constant worrying which made my anxiety and symptoms worse, your lymph nodes are going up and down is because its fighting the infection and flushing it all out, if it was cancer lymphnodes will only get larger and rock hard. Anxiety will only make your symptoms worse and will decrease your immune system and will only take longer to completely fight the infection off, do not look online as every small sypmton leads to cancer! Dr googke is a killer! Im sure you only have a viral infection like i did. Get your GP to refer you to a ENT if you are really worried, but trust me you need to relax more.

I can't add much to the great answer you have had from Kam.  If it is a viral infection these can take a while to clear.  It is good that you have seen a doctor and if your symptoms don't get better over the next few weeks then pop back and see them again.  And like Kam says, try to avoid checking things out on the web, this is more likely to worry you more.  It might be worth talking to your doctor about how anxious you are feeling to see if they can help you with this.  You also might find it helpful to look at the NHS MoodZone  which has tips for managing anxiety.

I had a virus for 4 months last year. Sore ears, painful glands, sore throat with a dry cough. All symptoms were on & off. Virus went away, it's nothing to worry about.

with you viral infection did you throat always feel tight and a dull ache just by you Adam's apple and you lymph noids feel sore in chest and groin

Yes my throat waa tight and use to ache a lot it lasted 8 months and vanished try not to worry be strong it will go away. Have you been or spoken to a professional? 

Hi sorry to bump in your post. I have same symptoms but with low grade fever upto 37.7 in the evening. Did you develop any mild temp with your infection?
