Worried about radiotherapy

Hello everyone

New today so my first post! Having radiotherapy soon (planning meeting tomorrow) and any advice would be welcome as feeling bit nervous! Had all the possible side effects explained to me yesterday and even though I think I'm only having one week of treatment it's just the fear of the unknown I guess.... Had lumpectomy about 8 weeks ago and will be on Letrazole for 5 years. Thanks for reading and sending very best wishes to everyone going through their own issues with this disease xx

  • Hello Coastview

How did your planning meeting with the radiotherapy team go yesterday? I hope that they were able to answer your questions and give you some reassurance about things.

Try to keep in mind that not everyone will experience all the side effects of any given treatment. You may very well sail through with minimal issues so try to think positively.

If there's anything you want to chat through with our team of nurses, give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer any information, advice, and support that they can.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn

Thanks so much for this information it's very much appreciated! - feeling like I'm getting there now! And the planning went fine x I've got my tattoos done which are no problem but also have been marked with felt tip which I'm now worried  I might wash off! I forgot to ask them about it yesterday...I'll ring my fab breast cancer nurse on Monday about this but any advice from you much appreciated too!

    Thanks so much,

  • Hi I had Radiotherapy after my Chemo for Breast Cancer, you can wash of the pen from your planning scan( they said I could but maybe check) they will put new marks on you next week using your Tattoo dots,

I also had a lumpectomy, I fould it the radiotherapy' fine I had 5 of the whole boob and 3 of just where the Tumor was. I had an achey boob a few weeks after but that was normal,

I hope it goes well and you recover well xx

  • Hi Snow Drop,

Thanks such a lot for this!! Really appreciate it - I've just joined the site and am still navigating my way round it! So it's lovely to start getting replies!

Thanks I will check with my breast cancer nurse tomorrow but this has stopped me worrying the rest of the day

Hope you continue to be well... If you don't mind me asking when did you have your treatment? So glad the after effects were not too bad for you...

Really have appreciated your message thanks again and sending you a rainbow

    Jx

  • Hi Coastview

I was diagnosed in Oct 2021, invasive Ductal carcinoma stage  1 grade3 her2- lymph negative oestrogen positive.

I had a lumpectomy, and 6 x Chemo FEC-t, my last chemo was 24th April and I had radiotherapy at the end of May.  I am now on Anastrole and Prostap injections.

I have just started too feel like me again. I hope your doing well, Such a scary journey I'm 38 with two young sons, it's been tough

i hope your okay too xxx

  • Hi Snow -Drop

Oh my goodness you have been on such a hard journey! Thank you for sharing and pleased you are starting to feel like you're getting your life back that must feel like such a relief... It must be so hard as well trying to probably shield your boys from the scariness of it all but you sound like you've dealt with each stage well and are coming through the other side.... It must have been difficult getting diagnosed so young too but now you are on their radar and will get monitored closely in future ( one of the few benefits I guess for us all on here!)

I wish you every happiness for the future and that you have many lovely times with your sons to come.

    Sending hugs,
