Womb biopsy

Is there anyone else who has had a womb biopsy because their endometrial lining is sitting around 20mm ?

  • Hi

    Waiting to have one.
Endometrium is thickened (and there were other findings). The extent of thickening and whether if concer depends if you are pre or postmenopausal as I understand it. Is that what you understand too?
    have you been waiting long?

Fingers crossed for an answer for you soon.

  • Hi

I am 12 years post menopause. I've been bleeding quite a bit for  4-5 weeks . The letter came saying I needed a biopsy as the endometrial lining is actually 20 mm .
I had a biopsy on Monday and have to wait 2-3 weeks for them to send a letter to my gp .
Have you had a biopsy yet Lemonandlime ?

  • No, due on Thursday. Had been having bleeds for a long time but thought they were perimenopausal patterns. Thickness is 9 mm but the myometrium underneath also appears heterogeneous. It is going to feel like forever for results.
    how are you holding up?

  • Hi

I hope they are still able to do the biopsy on Thursday fingers crossed . I'm sure it'll be deemed as urgent .
I'm ok thanks . Trying not to let my family know how anxious I am about all this . A 20mm thickness doesn't look good ( according according to Dr Google who i know I shouldn't be asking !!!) .

  • Thanks. They seem to be very organised locally so appointments are still happening. My referral went off the day after the ultrasound and the hospital called me the day after that to book me in for the biopsy. (To be honest, if I could book  in for a hysterectomy the same day, I really would!)

There are places that Dr Google can take you that are informative and balanced, and doing something gives back a bit of control. For what it is worth, and I am not medically trained, I think the different pieces of information together may be important.

I can relate to the anxiety! Each time there is a new result, the turmoil kicks up again. And I am making bargains with fate about the extent of the problem that I reckon I can cope with.

Do you have people in the house with you JaynieJ? And someone to talk to?

  • That's good that they're onto it . Please let me know when you get a date . Will you be having a general anaesthetic for it ?

I am really not an anxious person at all so am trying not to worry . I just can't seem to shake off this ' bad feeling ' I've got . My husband and my family aren't being very sympathetic . They are used to me the strong person who everyone turns too but it would have been nice if they appreciate the worry this is all causing me .

  • Hi Jaynie

yes, my biopsy is on Thursday. Not a general so expecting to be in and out quite quickly.

I'm sorry to hear the family aren't sympathetic. That's rough. There are many women on this forum who are anxious about their results. I would say your reaction is perfectly understandable. Did the family see your referral letter? Perhaps seeing it in black and white would help them see it from your point of view.

I started with period pains yesterday (am postmenopause according to blood test) so that's going round and round in my head.

  • Hi Jaynie

Hope are you doing okay and is not too much longer before you get a letter.

    Take care

  • Hello,

just wondering how it was going for those of you who were waiting? I hope you got good news?

I am in a similar situaiton. I had a call from my GP today, saying my endometrium in the scan yesterday was 25mm thick, which is worrying; I have had problems for a while but it was put down as peri-menopausal issues (am 50 years old): my regular periods started to be very heavy and came more often (every 20-21 days for the last 2-3 years instead of my usual 28 days), now followed by rarer (2 since November) but very long bleeds (3-4 weeks each time with huge clots and heavy flooding for half the time). Had a scan yesterday and they found the endometrium to be 25mm thick. I am now quite worried... Referral appointment scheduled for next week, I assume they will then proceed to take a biopsy...? Does anyone have encouraging words of comfort?

    Take care!

  • Hi there

I had a few of the same symptoms over a long period of time and it was also occurring perimenopausally, which made it harder to work out what to think (and yes, as a result, I left it quite a while, which I would not advise anyone to do). The endometrium was thickened (9 mm) and there were some observations relating to muscle layer underneath and ovaries from the ultrasound.

I had hysteroscopy in April and the doctor found two polyps that had not been visible on the scan, and she removed them there and then. The biopsy results came back with no cancer in polyps or endometrium. I have complex hyperplasia without atypia, which is a relief. I need non-surgical treatment to reduce the thickness of the endometrium and follow-ups for that and the ovaries for a while. So, I feel very fortunate.

You say your appointment is for next week. Is this for a hysteroscopy? Although I had to go in for the hysteroscopy alone (covid restrictions), my husband did drive. I recommend someone taking you because it allows you to say 'yes', if you want to, if the doctor asks for permission to take out any polyps she sees then and there. I would not have wanted to drive after the polypectomy but I was glad the doctor had all the samples she needed at the same time. I had a blood test at the same time. Results came a few days later by letter. Biopsy results came 2 weeks later by phone (and that was with Easter in the way).

if it helps to ask about anything, then do (although I appreciate you can find out things lots of other ways too). If you want to just chat, then happy to do that too.

    Take care
