Wobbly legs

Hi guys and girls

My dad has just had round 2 of chemo for SCLC with brain mets and I am looking for advice please! He was hospitalised for 8 days after round 1, severe vomiting, dehydration, loss of function in legs and arms...brutal but on discharge he was fighting hard and rallied really really well! This time has been smoother, no sickness (severe nausea and chronic hiccups/burping for 4 days) but he's managed to eat and drink and take all meds however instead of rallying his legs are getting really wobbly and as of this morning his hands are causing mischief! He has himself convinced it's the cancer spreading up until today I believed it was the chemo now I'm not so sure! He's due chemo 3 on Monday but I honestly don't think he'll be fit enough, anyone have any advice or experience with any of this, I'm feeling a bit lost in all of this

  • Hi my name is Marj I have just seen your post. If I was you, I would advise you to arrange a appointment with his oncologist as soon as possible and ask him to arrange a CT scan with contrast to either confirm or deny if it’s his the brain cancer if not then you know it’s due to Chemo. I definitely would arrange that prior to him having his next Chemo. Did you see the oncologist on Thursday it Friday to see if he was fit for Chemo on Monday. To see if his bloods where ok to proceed. Either way take him in on Monday, and before you let anyone give him chemotherapy ask to see the doctor first,  if you don’t the chemotherapy maybe either causing more problems or not even necessary. It sounds like your stuck between a Rock And a hard place. Anyhow that’s my advisei hope it helps. If I can help more, let me know but I can not now get back to you until late tomorrow evening ok . Marj xx

  • Hi there ... and welcome ...

Sorry you've not had a reply, but it is quite late, and moderators have stopped for the day ... and nurses are back on Monday.. it's just people with cancer or caring for someone with cancer on here ...

Sometimes it takes time to get a reply as you need someone who can answer your questions .. so please have a little patience, and hopefully someone will pop by with an answer ...  Chrissie...
