Wife diagnosed with hpv

My wife was diagnosed lately with HPV. We are both really confused because we have only ever been with each other for 12 years and both never had any sexual partners before each other. We hadn’t even done any oral or other hand foreplay activities with others before us. How can this happen? Should we be worried?

  • Hi Smol2323

I'm sorry to hear that your concerned about your wife's results.

HPV(Human Papilloma Virus) is an extremely common virus affecting the skin. The majority of sexually active men and women will come in to contact with HPV at some point in their life.  The HPV may well clear up on its own.

Anybody who has ever had any kind of sexual contact is at risk of getting HPV and it's worth remembering that a person can have HPV for a long time without knowing about it, so it is hard to know when they got HPV or who they got it from.

There's some really good information on the Jo's Trust website about HPV and hopefully that will set both your minds at ease.

If you've still got any questions please do give our team of nurses a call. They are available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,
