What to eat?!

I've just finished 33 sessions of radiotherapy. I am really struggling to eat. I don't have any sort of Peg or feeding tube. I don't even want to drink much because it hurts.

I was wondering if people could put what they could eat for a bit of inspiration as I am really getting fed up of weetabix, soup, yogurt and peaches. Even mash is too thick now :(

I have my mother in one ear nagging me to eat and drink which I know I need to do but it's just so difficult!

  • Hi toria84

I drink fruit smoothies , i have a magic bullet which i blend fresh and frozen fruit also add kali as it has lot of vitamins and you cant taste the kali.

They can be made as thick or thin with added water as required.

Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery.

  • Fruit smoothies and/or homemade thickshakes made with full cream milk peanut butter/bananas/chocolate etc. Google for some recipes. Experiment with the temperature too - some people find it easier to swallow cold things but others find that body temperature liquids are easier to swallow and keep down.

    Good luck!

  • Hiya. Another option is protein shakes, they come in so many different flavours so you wont get too bored and if you make them with full fat milk they will be good and nutricious. Also, look for the ones with the added vitamins. I recommend a brand called USN and buy it from Amazon.

Custard and rice pudding could be another option. It is really tricky to think of savoury foods though - i can see why you are struggling. What about a risotto, if you over cook the rice so that it is really soft, you can mush it down a bit and then add some milk, cream or mascapone to thin it out a bit.

i hope that helps a little. Don't stop trying even though it is difficult. Hope the pain eases soon x
