What is FLOT

HI All, Any insights. Just saw my husbands oncologist, for his T2, N0,m0 oesophageal cancer. They are going for a 'curative' outcome and will nuke him with 4 lots of FLOT over 8 weeks. I know it is chemo, but is it a 'newish' treatment. We have been given loads of leaflets, but I was looking from some 'human' insights. Also they will PET scan him after before he goes for the chop. We didn't see the surgeon today, Husbands tumour is 2cm now, I was wondering if oesophagectomy will be essential- Anne88 felt that it would be as to remove the blighters in case they decide to go on the move or regrow. BUT, if it shrinks it, could it mean maybe a partial oesophagectomy or even endoscopic. NO idea. Any human insights gratefully received.
  • Hello Hilts,

I hope the FLOT treatment goes well for your husband - it's great that they are going for a 'curative' outcome and I wish him the very best with the start of treatment. It's great that you have been given lots of useful information about this treatment and as you say it's helpful to also get human insights which is what this forum is great for!  I thought I would mention this thread to you where FLOT has been discussed before in a similar context so don't hesitate to post there and reply to anyone on this thread you feel you would like to connect with.

As for your question on the oesophagectomy, I think the best thing to do would be to get in touch with the surgeon and ask whether this surgery will be essential. They will be in the best position to advise you on this. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to call them and talk things through with them.

Best wishes and very best of luck for your husband's treatment,
