We are new!

hi there

My husband and I are new here! My mother in law was diagnosed with terminal cancer last September. She is 90 and it’s in her oesophagus. She is up and down emotionally but is saying she has had a long life and is ready to die.

The main problem for all of us is that she’s in pain and understandably, she’s scared that she will be housebound like she is now and in pain for a long time.

does anyone know the sort of time we are looking at and what we can do to support her? We have got a care package in place for her and she can’t eat now (except puréed foods) so she has been prescribed the fortisip drinks. Is there anything else we should do or ask about?

  • Hi Karen,

If you have a look under the 'About Cancer' link at the top of the page, go to 'Coping with Cancer' then follow the 'Death and Dying' link, you might find some info that, sadly, might be of help. I had a quick browse of it the other night and it's certainly somewhere I and my family will be looking at again when my death approaches.

    Best Regards

    Taff
