Waiting time for Biopsy Results

Still waiting after two weeks for biopsy results from a hysteroscopy. Information I was given on the day said 2-3 weeks but info sent with my appointment letter said within fourteen days, 5 days if considered serious.  The  2-3 weeks info seemed to be old as it had the number for NHS Direct on it and they no longer exist. Obviously I am very anxious.  I was so shocked at my appointment I didn’t ask when or how they would arrive.  What are others experiences.in waiting for results? Any comment or advice would be welcome.

  • Hello Sundial,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

I hope others who have been in a similar situation with waiting for their results come along shortly to share their experiences with you and give advice. Until then feel free to give our friendly team of cancer nurses a call.

    They're available on this phone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    Best wishes,

  • I had a phone call from the hospital yesterday asking me to go on Friday to discuss my results. I was expecting a letter not an appointment so now I’m even more worried. It doesn’t seem to have followed the procedure set out in a letter to me. I’m now expecting the worst.

  • Thank you Renata and Steph for your replies throughout the last few weeks.

i now have my biopsy results which showed low grade cancel cells in the endometrium. I am going for an MRI on 24/04 with a view of having a hysterectomy within the next  two weeks.

I would also like to thank all those people on this site including rileyroo, Sandra123 and warriorqueen for their brilliant support.

i will continue to visit this great site throughout my treatment and beyond.

  • You're very welcome Sundial although I'm sorry about the outcome of your biopsy. The good thing is that you now know what you're dealing with - which is always a relief, despite the result - so you can start moving forward with treatment.

I'm glad you've found support and friendship with our lovely forum members and I look forward to reading more of your posts on the forum soon :)

Good luck for your MRI on the 24th April Sundial, we'll be thinking of you.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Steph for your support and kind words.

  • Biopsy results came back in 5 days now an emergency appointment to go to the hospital to get them tomorrow! Does this mean bad news?

  • My biopsy results took three weeks and I was diagnosed with grade 1 cancer of the endometrium. So in answer to your question, the time taken is not always indicative of the results.

  • Hi sundial that is what the results showed also having Mri 6th Dec  as there is a fast growing tumour somewhere! Hopefully get more answers as will get the results from Mri  on Monday 10th Dec it' a long week waiting

  • Hi

Yes the waiting, if I’m honest, is the worst. So your biopsy showed grade 1, is that right? How do you know there is a fast growing tumour somewhere? Did you have blood tests as well?  I also had an MRI and my appointment turn round was as quick as yours. I think once they identify cancer they want to get on to it ASAP.  I had a keyhole hysterectomy within three weeks of that appointment and they found when the histology came back that the cancer was grade 3 so there was a fast growing tumour fortunately still contained in the uterus. My MRI showed stage 1b so contained.

Let me know how you get on. I hope things are sorted soon. Monday seems very far away but it will have gone quickly when you look back but slowly as you move nearer to it, if you know what I mean. Keep busy if you can.

  • My mum has a biopsy over 2 weeks ago as her womb lining was thick and she had unexpected bleeding. She was told results within 2 weeks but heard nothing and then was called to book an MRI. Then received letter which I think is really awful, saying they found some abnormalities and they'd be discussed after MRI. We phoned and consultant called back to give the awful news that they found cancerous cells. She would need a hysterectomy and also radiotherapy. Nothing else said. I feel devastated. I'm 28 and just have a 1 year old and my mum is my world mri is Monday and then the consultant app isn't until March 17th
