Waiting on results

Hi everyone,

I am completely new to this and would like some advice if possible. I am a 26 year old female. A few weeks ago I visited my doctor because I suddenly started to feel really tired and was experiencing night sweats. I originally thought it had something to do with adopting a vegetarian lifestyle and not getting the proper nutrients that my body needs. The doctor did a blood test and everything came back normal.

A week later I noticed a lump in my neck. I left it a week or so just in case it was a swollen gland however it did not go away and I noticed it started to get a little bigger. I went back to my doctors and she referred me to an ENT specialist on an urgent basis. I had my appointment last Thursday. The specialist did an ultrasound scan and then said she had saw something that she wasn't too sure / concerned about so opted to do an ultrasound guided biopsy and took x4 samples.

I'm really worried and feeling extremely anxious. I'm just wondering what other people did / do to cope whilst waiting for their results?

Many Thanks

  • Hi

I'm sorry you are going through this scary time. I sympathise as I'm currently waiting for a diagnosis. Did they say it was an actual lump or swollen lymph node? Lymph nodes swell up for lots of reasons.

  • Hi.

Thank you for your response. Sorry to hear that your going through something similar. How long have you been waiting for your results?

She didn't really say, she just said she was a little concerned about what was showing up on the ultrasound which is why she opted to do the biopsy and that she would see me again within 2 weeks. She asked me general questions about feeling tired and experiencing night sweats which I have been which is making me more worried.

I think im just thinking the worst possible outcome and looking on Google too much which probably isn't the best thing to do.

  • Hi

I am guilty of looking at Google all the time. I wish I hadn't because you will never find anything good. You put a symptom into Google and you can guarantee cancer will come up every time. You're getting this checked out quickly so that is a good thing. I wish I could erase Google because its brought me nothing but hell

  • Hi,

i feel your pain as I went through similar about five years ago.  It took months to get my results.  However when I did my treatment started very quickly. I must admit waiting for the results was horrendous but I was eventually treated. Try to keep to a routine and let a couple of people know so you have support.
