Waiting for a breast clinic appointment...

Hello..

I'm new here.

I found a lump in my breast last week. The GP saw me the same day, confirmed the lump, and phoned for a breast clinic appointment for me while I was with her. She got me an appointment for Monday 25th Jan (12 days from the GP appointment, 7 days from today) so that's where I am now. Waiting...

I feel so lucky that I am being seen so soon, but also worry that this indicates that the GP suspects cancer. I am trying to stay away from Google, but equally I feel that I want to know what might be happening to me...

Anyone else waiting too? Or anyone who has been through this and can offer advice?

Thanks

Ginger

  • Hi GingerLib

I’m in the same boat as you! I too found a lump in my breast last week and I’ve also been referred to the breast clinic. I have to wait two weeks for an appointment.

I don’t know about you but I’m frantic with worry! I can’t concentrate on anything, one minute I’m fine and the next I’m crying my eyes out.

I’ve killed myself off via google,my advice is don’t use it lol.

Please keep us updated on your journey xxx

    Hi Ginger,

Welcome to our community. I am so sorry to hear about the lump which you've found. I did the same 9 years ago, then found another lump in the same breast 8 years ago, so I have a fair idea just how worried you are.

I am glad to hear that your GP hasn't wasted any time in referring you to the breast clinic.

First of all, let me assure you that it is normal to be seen within 2 weeks when referred to the breast clinic, so don't read anything untoward into being seen so soon. You are sensible to stay away from Google, as much of the information is out of date or poorly researched. It also tends to hone in on the more spectacular cases, which you don't want to hear about at this stage - your imagination is probably already leading you into dark places.

The best thing you can do whilst you're waiting is to try and distract yourself by keeping busy. this doesn't have to be all work. There are pleasanetr pursuits which can use up your time.

Your first appointment will be pretty straightforward. Your consultant will discuss your symptoms. You will then have a mammogram and/or an ultrasound. You may then have a biopsy. You usually have another 1-2 weeks before you get the results of these tests back and then you will get your diagnosis. It is always a good idea to take someone with you when you are going to get your results.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here foryou.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
