Vocal cord lesions advice needed please

So I posted recently that I was seeing an emergency consultant due to loss of voice over a month now.

I have had an endoscopy now and it is showing thick lesions on my vocal cords. They were very white and not very nice to look at.

The doctor is concerned as to sizes and wants to perform a microlarynscopy and remove both lesions within the next 2 weeks.

Has anyone had lesions removed? Was the procedure painful after.

The consultant is concerned that it is vocal cord cancer but told me he wont know until after the operation and removal and then biopsy.

How long does a biopsy take to come back?

Anyone else had similar experiences and been diagnosed or not diagnosed with cancer.

Due to the size of them I will be having speech therapy after.

I'm still staying positive just grateful I now know what I'm dealing with in terms of the voice going and that it's being felt with so quickly.

Thanks for any help its appreciated xx

  • Hey Angela

glad you got back to us . I think I told you my husband is in treatment for vocal cord cancer of the glottis . He actually felt fine after his biopsy & was up and talking again almost straight away . He was told results would be back in two weeks but got a phone call after a week as my husband had asked for this and we think the surgeon knew what it was when he removed it . He then had to wait a further week for the histology results . This of course may not be the case for you and it may well not be sinister I hope so Keep in touch with us , lFingers all crossed for you .  Even though you haven’t had a diagnosis of cancer you will find a few of us under the heading radiotherapy for throat cancer . You will get support and help there . Ginny x x  PS my husband also has a speech therapist ! X

  • Thank you so much for your support will head over to radiotherapy for throat cancer .

I'm glad your husband was talking again. Silly that is what effects me the most in all this not being able to communicate to my daughter who's 3.

She knows I'm very unwell and has been so well behaved with it all.

Fingers crossed I get a date soon for surgery .

I'm so grateful I have answers so quickly but know the wait for results will be a killer.

Sending love and support to you and your husband xx

  • Hello Angela.

I too am waiting for results, had my Biopsy's done 10 days ago, am booked for Ultrasound and CT scans this week, then ENT and Oncology next Tuesday.  The waiting is the worst part as your mind goes to worse case scenario.  I have had to give myself a good talking too and will have to wait until next Tuesday to find out what is what.  Hope things go well for you and I am sure your little girl will appreciate her mummy hugs even if you cannot talk to her at the moment.  Take care, much love xx
